The ‘Non-Commissioned Officers’ Residence’ was built in the 1940s by the Spanish military authorities and served as accommodation for non-commissioned officers from all over Spain during their military service. The rooms on the upper floors were fitted with bunk beds and shared bathrooms. On the ground floor there were a few offices, a library and a dining room with a small bar, where the ‘La Santa’ and ‘Plaza del Viento’ flats are now located. Behind the building there was a kitchen, which we removed for aesthetic reasons and to create more parking space. Where the rear entrance is now, there used to be a smaller staircase for staff and lower-ranking military personnel. In the 1990s, more and more military installations around the Strait of Gibraltar began to close down. Before the building was closed down completely and left derelict, it had been converted into a warehouse.

In the autumn of 2012, we began renovating the building to a very tight schedule. Before pouring the concrete for the ground floor foundations and the eight pillars supporting the swimming pool, we demolished all the internal partition walls, the staff staircase, the rear kitchen and some false ceilings. From January 2013 onwards, around thirty people worked on the site every day to ensure that you could enjoy the end of the summer with the quality you expected.
